Re-Entry #3: Coins

Originally written in early July 2013.
I never would have thought this possible, but I actually forgot how to count U.S. coins. In Taiwan the coins are in units of 1, 5, 10, and 50. Of course in the U.S. they are 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 (not to mention $1). The first time I had to use coins in the U.S. after being in Taiwan for almost eleven years (at a Taco Bell in Los Angeles, I'm ashamed to admit) I screwed up by thinking that quarters were ten cents rather than twenty-five cents. It was no wonder the girl at the counter looked at me like I was insane when I paid with a handful of change, but in the wrong amount!
